These landscapes chronicle my search for overlooked beauty and simplicity. In our fast-paced, tech-laden world it is so easy for us to overlook the simple beauty of our natural surroundings. Virtually everywhere we turn, we are reminded of our civilization and the excesses that issue from it. But when I visit the places not touched by man’s presence, I am able to immerse myself into their pristine majesty. The paintings that I have done within these natural borders exhibit a unique strength because of the spontaneity of the site and the mood. My work evokes a sense of mystery and energy, but never a mastery over the subject. My palette is saturated with natural color, altered only by the brilliance of shadow and sunlight. And I find that by interpreting nature in its most innocent form, I am able to define for myself the dichotomy of humankind’s love/hate relationship with its surroundings. My landscapes never include the human element so as to heighten the need for harmony and balance in the tumultuous world in which we live. It gives us pause to rethink our relationship with the beautiful canvas that mother nature has given us to live our lives.
